Founded in Pennsylvania in 1935, its membership has grown to over 50,000 members from all parts of the world. The AACA holds country-wide competitive and noncompetitive meets and events. These are on a divisional basis offering a program within the reach of everyone.

The AACA is proud of its relationship with the many historical organizations devoted to similar objectives the world over. The Club, through its national office, publications, and membership, aids individuals, museums, libraries, historians and collectors dedicated to the preservation of automotive history.

AACA Members own many thousands of historic automobiles, rare collections of literature, books, films, pictures and other materials significant to automotive history.

Vehicles

Motor vehicles of all types, 25 years old and older, are grouped for competitive purposes into many classes according to age and mechanical features. There are four main groups of vehicles: "antique" vehicles are pre-1930 models; "classic" and "production" vehicles are the later models. Exceptionally fine cars of specific makes, such as Duesenberg, Rolls-Royce, Cord, etc., dating from 1930 through 1942, are recognized as "classic." A new group of limited-production luxury vehicles is recognized as "Specified Prestige Vehicles." Examples of Prestige vehicles are the Jaguar Mark IV, Oldsmobile Fiesta and Rolls-Royce.

Regions and Chapters

There are several hundred regions and chapters chartered by the Antique Automobile Club of America in the United States and Canada. Regions and their chapters are administered in an autonomous manner holding their own meetings, collecting local dues, and conducting runs, meets and other events under the direction of their respective elected officers. Membership in the national Antique Automobile club of American is a prerequisite to joining a region or chapter.

Apple Country Auto Club is the chartered AACA regional club for the North Georgia area.

Around 1982, Bobby Burgess of Thomas Insurance Agency sponsored a car show in Ellijay, Georgia. That first show drew around 30 vehicles, and grew each year until 1986. At that time, Tom and Shirley Low formed a group of 6 to 8 people who called themselves the Gilmer Street Rodders.

Under their guidance, a show was put together in just three short weeks, complete with judging of almost 100 vehicles in 20 classes. The event continued to grow, and it became necessary to be more formally organized for legal and insurance reasons.

Incorporated in 1998, Apple Country Auto Club membership has grown to over 70 families, including hourly workers, retirees, executives, business owners, and anyone else who loves old cars. Click here for a list of club officers and members. The club does not discriminate against any type of car -- our members own a broad spectrum of cars from Grand National award winning original restorations like Pop Goble's 1937 Cord and Max Hoyle's 1937 to Roy Kyle's award winning custom Chevy truck and all types in between, including cars that are under construction and daily drivers. One member, Johnny Bearden, owns a modified 1955 Chevy, and his handiwork has been published in several national magazines. Our members have won several trophies in various competitions around the Southeast. So many, in fact, it would take a large room to display them all.

Along the way, the little car show has grown into the second-largest non-profit show in North Georgia, with over 600 cars on the show field for the 1997 show. The club also started a monthly Cruise-in at the Dairy Queen and a small show during the Memorial Day holiday. The profits from these shows are donated to local youth organizations, schools and individuals in need. All donations remain within Gilmer County.

"Preserving the Classics for the Future" is the motto of our club. If you would like to become a member of Apple Country Auto Club, fill out a membership application.
